Panasonic today showed a prototype of its new LUMIX FZ1000 camera at Broadcast Asia in Singapore. This looks to be a great camera to throw in your bag and take anywhere.
The camera features the ability to record 4K video internally. It records 4K or UHD to SD cards in the AVCHD codec at 10bit 4:2:0. It also features a clean HDMI out, so in the future you will be able to record 4K externally, to say an Atomos Shogun recorder. In HD mode you can record upto 120fps in full-HD. The FZ1000 features a new 1-inch, 20.1-megapixel high sensitivity MOS Sensor, which Panasonic are touting as having an impressive S/N ratio, making it possible to capture clear images with minimum noise even when shot at 12,800 ISO. The ISO can be extended to ISO25600.
The DMC-FZ1000 offers a hybrid photography function. It combines 4K video recording capability (QFHD 4K: 3840×2160, 30 fps in MP4)* with the ability to switch easily between video and still capture. The FZ1000 also enables in-camera playback screen grabs of (3840×2160) 8-megapixel equivalent hybrid photography photos from 4K video footage to capture the shots often missed with ordinary still photos.
* 4K video can be recorded up to 29 minutes 59 seconds. When recording videos in 4K, use a card rated as UHS Speed Class 3.
A newly developed fixed Leica lens has a huge 26-400mm (35mm equivalent) with a relative fast f/2.8-4 aperture.
There is a 3.5mm audio jack but strangely no headphone jack which seems very puzzling. The camera will ship in August this year for $899US. For more info, visit: www.panasonic.com
