BIRTV 2013: Tilta $5000 wireless follow focus system with three motors from Dan Chung on Vimeo.
Wireless follow focus is not usually a product type that we feature here on Newsshooter – these are designed mainly for Steadicam, jib, shoulder rig and now Brushless Gimbal (MoVI) use in cinema by a professional focus puller. In the past year or two there have been a number of cheaper single or dual motor setups, but a three motor wireless follow focus setup from a western maker still typically costs about the same as a family car. Tilta’s prototype three motor system breaks that mould and should be priced around the $5000 US mark. How well it will perform is yet to be determined as the setup is still in the prototype stages.
I doubt too many real world shooters will be buying one of these systems unless they are getting serious about MoVI type setups. It is interesting though to see Chinese makers attempting to make them at lower prices – it seems there is little that they won’t try.
