With under a day to go until the start of the annual NAB convention Blackmagic Design have given the biggest sign yet that they have several new cameras on the way. Large billboards have been placed around the Convention centre displaying details of two new cameras – the URSA Mini and the Micro Cinema Camera.

The URSA Mini has a 4.6K Super35 resolution sensor, for which Blackmagic claim 15 stops of dynamic range. The design looks to be a shrunken version of the current URSA, more like Sony’s FS7. It has an EVF and a flip out display. There is a top handle and VCT baseplate/shoulder pad also shown in the picture.

The Micro Cinema Camera is a very small form factor camera with a Super16mm sized sensor. It has a claimed 13 stops of dynamic range. RAW recording is built-in.

Interestingly the camera has PWM and S,Bus controllers which could potentially interface with gimbals and remote controls on multirotors. The camera is shown on the poster attached to a quadcopter – this is presumably the intended use.

Hopefully we will get full details from Blackmagic Design at their NAB press conference tomorrow. The Newsshooter team will be on hand to find out more.
