Chinese tripod maker Sirui have been making photo tripods for several years now and recently started making video products too. I talked to them at the BIRTV show in Beijing about their new line of professional video tripods which includes models that will support anything from DSLRs to a full blown ENG camera. They were also showing a new carbon fibre travel jib and an interesting combination shoulder rig/cage/slider/table dolly called the Video Survival Kit VSK-5.
From what I saw, the fit and finish of these tripods is a step up from many of the other Chinese tripods at the show. The metalwork too seemed to be better engineered. How they perform in the field is of course what counts and it is too early to say how they will cope with pro use.
Pricing for the US and Europe is not yet available but expect them to be competitive. For more info you can keep an eye on this website.
